Streets of Rage is a classic. Very few would dispute this and even fewer would be able to present appropriate grounds for doing so. Any 16-bit gamer worth their salt has struggled through Streets of Rage multiple times alone and with a friend, learning the enemy patterns and making best use of their incredibly limited special abilities. SEGA’s Mega-Drive console played host to many innovations, but in Streets of Rage it found itself propelling an entire genre forward in one fell swoop.
There’s no denying that the original reveal of the Xbox One console may not have worked out quite as Microsoft Studios had planned. Discussing what are seen as the supplementary features ahead of videogames was never going to be a smart move as far as the vocal minority are concerned, and while this may not have dampened the demand for the system amongst the mass market it hadn’t done the reputation of the console any favours. Today’s media briefing however, has changed all of this.

With the PlayStation 4′s specs now out in the open and the console supposedly heading for a release before the end of 2013, the gaming world has been abuzz over how Sony Computer Entertainment’s new machine will match up to Microsoft’s forthcoming Xbox One. However, there’s another side to this story that hasn’t been discussed quite as hotly: how does the new console match up to a custom-made gaming PC, in terms of price and performance?
