Electronic Theatre ImageFollowing an interview with Phillip Baude, the lead game designer for the ctOS Mobile app for Watch_Dogs, last month Electronic Theatre today brings you a question and answer (Q&A) session discussing the companion app for the videogame: ctOS Mobile. Set to be available alongside the videogame at launch, ctOS Mobile will enable Watch_Dogs’ multiplayer gameplay and a whole host more besides.

WATCH_DOGS – CTOS MOBILE [Companion App]

 

  1. 1.       What is happening when Aiden calls for help in the Stage Demo? Who is hi-jacking the police helicopter and activating the bollards?

When Aiden is calling for help, he is sending a request to “WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” players connected to the WATCH_DOGS universe through their mobile devices. When a “WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” player accepts a Electronic Theatre Imagehelp request, a coop experience starts and the goal for the 2 players is to survive from the police by evading it. In the demo, the “WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” player is the one hacking the police helicopter and activating the blockers.

 

  1. 2.       How does WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile work?

“WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” is above all a new game experience in the universe of WATCH_DOGS. This app allows connecting players using mobile devices and consoles to play live together and share a mutual game experience, wherever they share the same couch or they are at thousand miles from each other.

 

  1. 3.       What are the different game modes available in WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile?

Two modes are available in “WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile”: Coop and Versus.

 

Coop mode places a console player (1P) and a “WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” player (2P) together against the police. 2P’s goal is to facilitate 1P’s work so he or she can evade from the police more easily.

 

Versus mode places a console player (1P) against a “WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” player (2P) where 2P can control the police forces (ex: the helicopter) and some infrastructures of the city (ex: bridges, traffic lights, etc). 2P’s goal is to stop 1P to reach his or her objectives within the time limits.

 

  1. 4.       What platforms will WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile be available on?

“WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” will be available on Android and iOS; both for phones and tablets.

 

  1. 5.       Do players need to buy the console game to play WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile?

No, “WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” players don’t need to own the console game or even a console to play. But they sure need a friend playing on a console to have a partner. J

 

  1. 6.       Will there be a cost for WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile? Will there be monetization?

“WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” is a free app, with its own progression skills; the more you play on “WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile”, the better you will get and the better the experience will become. And yes, it will support monetizationElectronic Theatre Image but it will really be upon players’ choice! You can do everything and play as much as you want without paying if you chose too.

 

  1. 7.       What can you tell us about the development of this app (team working on it, for how long, major breakthroughs, etc)?

The “WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” team is based in two locations, Montreal and Quebec, and has been working on this project for over a year and half.

 

“WATCH_DOGS – CTOS Mobile” features major breakthroughs:

  • Linking in real time a console game with a mobile device, and vice versa.
  • The possibility to play anywhere and anytime (over WiFi or 3G network).
  • Offering news ways to interact with a console player and share a mutual game experience as never seen before.
