So it turns out that my start in the town of Electro hasn’t gone as smoothly as I’d anticipated. Following my induction ceremony last night I retired to my home to find that all I had been given was a plot of land and a tent. What’s more, that shrewd tycoon Nook has billed me 10,000 Bells for the privilege! I need to find some cash, and I need to find it quickly. Luckily I noticed that Electro has a keen recycling programme, so I head to the beach in order to find some goods washed-up on the shore.

Shells. All I can find is shells. I feel my pockets, hoping that someone may give me a few Bells in exchange, and head off to Re-Tail, the local recycling establishment. To my surprise they seem to value shells quite highly, offering me 2,456 Bells for my bounty! Today is off to a good start after all.

Rather than giving the money straight to Nook I decide to visit his son’s store and buy myself a bug catching net and a shovel: give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, teach him to fish for himself and he’ll eat for the rest if his life. I just taught myself to fish, and got myself a nice new Samus Hat through the fortune cookie raffle in the process.

I return to the town and dig up the disturbed earth I’d noticed previously, finding several fossils and a bag of Bells in the process. Furthermore, I accidentally hit a rock with my shovel as I conduct my work and find that a number of Bells fall from it. All of a sudden I was rolling in dough; I’ll certainly be trying this again tomorrow.

Given my new found fortune I decide to let my generous streak surface and donate some of the fossils I found to the local museum. Upon arriving there however, the curator Blathers became so excited that I got caught up in his gust, and donated all of the fossils I’d found. I’m not sure how he did it, but Blathers managed to get every last drop of kindness from me and put it on display. To make me feel better about this situation he credited me on each item’s plaque. And it works. I do feel good, as if I’m helping the town as a whole. If fortune smiles upon me once again as it has done today, I might be convinced to return here.
