I awoke this morning to hear a fluttering outside my tent. Scrambling outside I meet Pete, the pelican postman, who informs me that I have new mail. From whom I’m not entirely sure, as it’s only the locals and Rover that are aware of my new residency. Upon reading the letter I discover that I may have unwittingly become partisan to a conspiracy. Remaining anonymous my new correspondent asserts that he or she was all set to become mayor before my arrival. Nevertheless, I do not intend to give up this position of power without a fight.

I immediately head to the Town Hall to discuss my duties with Isabelle and see what I may stake a claim to before the would-be mayor attempts to undo all my good fortune. Turns out it’s not that simple: I need some kind of permit before I can make any real changes. A town flag can be undone just as easily as I can redesign it. I need something more concrete; more permanent. In order to get this permit I need to have my house built and increase my ‘approval rating.’ This may not be the walk in the park I have been hoping for.

I go in search of another small fortune, and as luck would have it another rock provides me with more than 2,000 Bells! I’m not entirely sure what magic is bestowed upon the rocks in this town, but I’m not about to argue. This, couple with half-a-dozen shells, a few cherries picked from trees and a few random insects, brings my total finances to over 10,000 Bells. My new landlord is about to get his down payment, and when he does he promises that a house will be built for me by morning – around me while I sleep, no less – it may not be cheap, but his craftsmanship is infallible.

While wandering around the shopping district I bump into another resident, Broccolo, who is only too happy to see me. I compliment her on her attire, and in return she presents me with a new shirt. Apparently she bought it but wasn’t sure about it, but rather than return it decided that it would suit me. And it does. We adjourn our conversation only for Stinky to arrive; a keen fisherman who’s only too happy to share some tips with me. This will be handy, as according to Stinky there’s a fishing tournament beginning in town tomorrow.

Heading back into town I notice that a new plot has been reserved. One ‘Phil’ will soon be arriving. While it’s most likely simple coincidence, I can’t help but wonder if it was this Phil who sent me the letter. Could he be making a move so soon? I need to act fast. Tomorrow’s a new day, and I need to ensure that Electro will continue to provide me with the casual luxury I have benefited from thus far.
