Coded Arms: Assault

Coded Arms: Assault is only Konami’s second foray into the First-Person Shooter genre. After the arrival of the first in the Coded Arms series for the PlayStation Portable soon after UKElectronic Theatre Image launch, the second title is now headed to the PlayStation3, with a third also announced also for the PSP.

With the title only available in video form at this years E3, it seems that even a company as forward with their support for every format under-the-sun as Konami may have reservations about the PlayStation3 – especially after being short-changed on a few of their releases for the PSP, with many original productions being cancelled in favour of quick-buck pre-built titles. But that’s not to say Konami’s first PlayStation3 title doesn’t show promise.

Coded Arms: Assault had two trailers at the show; one demonstrating little more than a couple of gameplay moments and character concepts while the other previewed a few brief gameplay initiatives. In a complete contradiction to the first PSP release, Coded Arms: Assault features outdoor environments as it principle play arenas. Whether or not these remain as randomly-generated designs is yet to be seen, but after demonstrating the progressive play, is highly unlikely. Much Electronic Theatre Imageof the scenery is destructible and the holographic theme of the original remains, in rather a glorious technicolour presentation.

Walker Robots and a rather luscious armour-plated vixen create the beginnings of a yet unseen cast promising both new and recurring enemies. Some astonishing Real-Time Lighting Effects and a fantastic looking Boss encapsulated with hundreds human bodies - which scatter around the screen when attacking the huge monstrosity – create a truly amazing looking First-Person title, but not knowing how it actually plays right now leaves us all wanting more.
