Electronic Theatre Image            PicrossDS is the latest arrival in Nintendo’s Touch Generations! series for the NintendoDS. Accompanying the likes of Actionloop, Sudoku Master and TetrisDS as part of the NintendoDS’s AAA Puzzle game line-up, PicrossDS will be familiar to those brought-up with videogames throughout the ‘80’s and ‘90’s, with one fine difference – the added benefit of the NintendoDS’s unique Touch Screen.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Monster Trucks DS

3 July, 2006
By

Electronic Theatre Image            Monster Trucks DS has arrived in the UK almost with its tail in-between its legs. Several months after its original proposed released release date and with a budget-price, Majesco’s sister-title to ATV: Quad Frenzy sets the pace as being the only big-rig release on the NintendoDS since the disappearance of the promise Big Mutha Truckers title. A mixed-bag before the Game Card even enters the NintendoDS console, certainly, but with full 3D Scaling, twenty-five Tracks and four-player Multi-Card play, Monster Trucks DS follows Majesco and THQ’s more recent work-ethic; going for that niche jugular.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: ATV: Quad Frenzy

29 June, 2006

Electronic Theatre ImageDriving Quad Bikes through mud is definitely going to be fun; however it’s also not going to be that safe. Thankfully the invention of the videogame means that we can experience the fun of driving really fast on a two-stroke death-trap without fear of mud, crashes and a messy operation. The MX Vs. ATV series is undoubtedly the king of off-road racing but it is not Rainbow Studios that brings ATV action to the NintendoDS, but rather Skyworks Technologies, with ATV: Quad Frenzy. Read More…

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: NEW Super Mario Bros.

29 June, 2006
By

Electronic Theatre Image            Super Mario Bros. is a series that really needs little introduction. Having single-handedly created the 2D Platform genre and being heralded as having been partly responsible for the salvation of the videogames industry in the early eighties as part of the NES entourage and, arguably, helping to create the industry that we know today, it’s very little surprise that his continued success is kept a keen eye-on by not only Nintendo, but the industry as a whole.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Nintendogs: Dalmatian and Friends

16 June, 2006
By

Electronic Theatre Image          Nintendogs was the series of releases that made the NintendoDS a console for everyone. Anybody who played it couldn’t help but smile when their Nintendog sat down or rolled over for the first time, regardless of age or gender. It was also a fine demonstration of what the NintendoDS could do and inspiration for many of the unique Touch! Generations games. With six million sales worldwide, not to mention the NintendoDS’ domination of the handheld arena, Nintendogs has become arguably the biggest franchise to come out of Nintendo since Pokemon. Coming one week before the launch of the NintendoDS redesign, the sleek and lightweight NintendoDS Lite, is the fourth variation of the Nintendogs brand; Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends. Just another Nintendogs? Or a new challenge for fans of the originals? Read More…

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: WarioWare Touched!

11 June, 2006
By

Electronic Theatre ImageAppearing as a NintendoDS launch title, WarioWare Touched! offers a very innovative appearance for the portly blunder-boy. This is the sort of game that clearly has to have a Touch Screen in order to be effectively played. That’s why the NintendoDS delivered quite successfully in this department. With plenty of microgames to check out, you will spend many hours enjoying this wonderful DS title to its fullest. Read More…

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?

8 June, 2006
By

Electronic Theatre ImageThe unique user interface of the NintendoDS has opened-up the way for totally original and distinctive development. Titles such as Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble and Resident Evil:  Deadly Silence are new takes on classic game styles, whereas the brilliant Trauma Center: Under The Knife and Nintendogs have virtually created their own genres. Perhaps it’s the pioneering nature of the Touch! Generations titles, Nintendo’s reputation for excellent handheld systems, or the sheer cuteness of the Nintendogs that has helped the NintendoDS and it’s successor, the NintendoDS Lite, to sell over sixteen million units, but whatever it is, sales show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The latest craze to sweep Japan, which, given the popularity of the NintendoDS in all regions, should be read as “the next craze to sweep the world”, is Brain Training. Yes, games that are actually good for your brain.

NintendoDS Lite Launches

8 June, 2006
By

Electronic Theatre ImageEver since the NintendoDS and SONY PSP hit the Japanese market back in late 2004, not even the best efforts of their parent companies have been able to stop the ongoing  debate over which is the better handheld console. Both SONY and Nintendo insist that their respective consoles do not target the same market but, as usual, Joe Public has other ideas. The Nintendo’s faithful praise the innovative gameplay, robust game console nature and extensive great game library of the NintendoDS, whereas fans of their rival favour the PSP’s multimedia capabilities, better graphics and sleek design. As has been proved time and time again, the success of a console is defined by its games and as it stands, the NintendoDS is beating the PSP in sales in almost every region, especially so in Japan where the NintendoDS outsells the SONY PSP by a ratio of almost 3.5:1. Despite its success in Japan, European and American territories have been slower to become part of the Touch! Generations wave, a factor that is likely due to the NintendoDS’ appeal to the key 16 – 24 year old demographic, or rather, the lack of it. In this image conscious world, aesthetics are everything and let’s face it, the NintendoDS it isn’t much of a looker, is it?
