Acting in contrary to the proven trend is a brave move for any franchise, but for a videogame it’s almost unheard of. This week will see the release of Gotham City Impostors, a title that not only rubs against the grain of expectation, but revels in the fact that it’s so very different from its contemporaries. The most immediate change of pace is that you don’t actually play as Batman, or a superhero at all. In Gotham City Impostors, you’re an everyday Joe taking the law into his own hands – for better or worse.
Ubisoft recently announced the latest Rainbow 6 title, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots. Despite initially revealing very little, the publisher has slowly begun unravelling the tale of what is promising to be a comprehensive experience. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal with the support of Ubisoft Toronto and Red Storm, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots not only offers a single-player storyline, but will also introduce a huge variety of co-operative and multiplayer experiences.
Focus Home Interactive recently confirmed the European release of A Game of Thrones, a new role-playing game (RPG) for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC based on the series by George R.R. Martin, which was recently adapted into a television (TV) series by HBO. In A Game of Thrones, players will enter the shoes as one of two playable characters, travelling through mythical locations from Westeros on their quest.

The catalogue of software from the publishers varies dramatically in intent and delivery, from deep and demanding conflicts to third-person adventures, and this variety is arguably its greatest strength. The upcoming addition of Defenders of Ardania will surely only bolster the strength of Paradox Interactive’s line-up, as during 
The forthcoming LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 is perhaps on of the most highly-anticipated family videogame releases set to launch this winter. Familiarity is both a blessing and a curse for many when considering the LEGO franchise videogames, but while the core videogame demographic may have become bored with the coin collecting platform antics of the series, there’s no denying that the family audience will readily lap it up. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
