Electronic Theatre Preview: Velocity

16 April, 2012
By

Electronic Theatre ImageIndependent UK studio FuturLab are currently preparing to launch their second PlayStation Minis title, Velocity. Set to arrive on the PlayStation Network next month, Velocity has a lot of things going for it: low price, familiar genre premise, universal compatibility for all current PlayStation formats. But that doesn’t mean it’s about to rest on its retro flavoured laurels.

Electronic Theatre Preview: LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7

9 November, 2011
By

Electronic Theatre ImageThe forthcoming LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 is perhaps on of the most highly-anticipated family videogame releases set to launch this winter. Familiarity is both a blessing and a curse for many when considering the LEGO franchise videogames, but while the core videogame demographic may have become bored with the coin collecting platform antics of the series, there’s no denying that the family audience will readily lap it up. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.

Electronic Theatre Preview: Michael Jackson: The Experience

Of all the versions of Ubisoft’s Michael Jackson: The Experience currently in development, the PlayStation Portable (PSP) version may appear to be the least tactile. Devoid of any motion control devices or touch controls, the PSP edition is a much simpler affair, but as has been proven by past successes in the Rhythm-Action genre, a control pad can provide just as addictive gameplay as any gesture-based mechanic.

Both Patapon and Patapon 2 have enjoyed critical acclaim, as well as earning a devoted following. The previewing of Patapon 3 this week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has therefore generated a fair amount of hype and expectant fans will not be disappointed. Patapon 3 pays homage to its predecessors and has the same bold art style, however the game is slightly grittier and there are a number of other changes that have improved upon an already proven formula.

Due to arrive in Europe in early 2010, Tecmo Koei Europe’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) exclusive is one of the most unique gaming propositions currently on the console’s release schedule. Undead Knights has already garnered much attention thanks to the publishers’ interesting marketing agenda, but it’s the game itself that has sparked interest amongst the most discerning PSP gamers.

Electronic Theatre Image

Coming to the PlayStation Portable (PSP) later this year, Warriors Orochi 2 had a rather shy demonstration at last week’s Tecmo Koei Europe Launch Event, snugly tucked away in the corner with only two demonstration units available. Though, it must be said, with the event concentrating largely on Ninja Gaiden Σ 2, those two units remained available for use for much of the event. Read More…

Electronic Theatre Preview: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

25 May, 2009
By

Electronic Theatre Image            Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is all but knocking on the door of European retail, and Capcom aren’t afraid to let you know it. Alongside an incredibly informal demonstration at the MCM Expo in London this weekend, Capcom unveiled plans for a more elaborate, long-term space for fans to freely gather for all things Monster Hunter. If that wasn’t generous enough, Europe will be receiving two productions of the Monster Hunter Freedom Unite demo prior to launch – one available for download, the other on a limited run of Universal Media Discs (UMDs) – and some unfathomably generous helping hands in the form of the Encyclopedia Gigantica.

Electronic Theatre Preview: Star Ocean

2 August, 2008
By

Electronic Theatre Image            At E3 this year, we saw the arrival of not one, but two Star Ocean titles on the PlayStation Portable system. Both Star Ocean: First Departure – a remake of the very first release in the series, originally released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1996 in Japan, but never before having been localised for Western audiences – and Star Ocean: Second Evolution – a remake of the second title in the series originally titled Star Ocean: The Second Story and released in 1998 on the PlayStation in Japan and the US.

Electronic Theatre Preview: LocoRoco 2

1 August, 2008
By

Electronic Theatre Image            Announced a few days before E3 this year (although unveiled by Electronic Theatre a few days before that), LocoRoco 2 wasn’t too big a surprise, but a pleasant one regardless. Unlike Patapon 2, however, LocoRoco 2’s E3 showing was quite retrained. In-fact, the title itself didn’t even appear at the show, although a series of screenshots were released and, of course, Electronic Theatre managed to grab a handful of new details.

Electronic Theatre Preview: Resistance Retribution

29 July, 2008
By

Electronic Theatre Image            The big (and possibly only, thanks to Electronic Theatre’s unveiling of LocoRoco2 and Patapon 2 earlier this month) surprise for PlayStation Portable gamers at this year’s E3 show was the announcement of a big PLAYSTATION3 franchise making it’s way to the car-friendly system, if the form of Resistance: Retribution. Not due for release until late Spring 2009, we were surprised that SONY allowed playable code to be shown.
