The second of Sony’s SingStar spin-offs, following the very nearly successful SingStar Dance, SingStar Guitar apes another popular physical action game genre, that of the recently downtrodden band simulation game. Taking the form of a Guitar Hero-esque Rhythm Action game for its new additions, SingStar Guitar is also playable as a karaoke game just as with any other SingStar release, and yet does not suffer from the increased price-tag one would expect.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Time Crisis: Razing Storm

One of the most predictable gameplay formulas for the PlayStation move motion-controller, especially given the catalogue on hand for Wii owners, Time Crisis: Razing Storm is surprisingly lonely as one of only two arcade style Shoot-‘Em-Up games currently available. Along with the creatively titled The Shoot, Time Crisis: Razing Storm takes the traditional arcade presentation and applies it to the motion-controller, delivering near-perfect coin-op style play to a high-definition console.

Following on from Start the Party!, the PlayStation Move’s second first-party Party game comes in the form of TV Superstars. Acting a series of mini-games tied together by the pretence that players are working their way up the celebrity ladder to become A-List stars, TV Superstars offers an entertaining evening’s play with a family contest that can continue from week-to-week.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: The Shoot

While the software accompanying the PlayStation Move may be more mature in it’s presentation than that available for Wii, it certainly follows the same “simplicity = attractive” formula in terms of marketing. Wii Sports is a game about sports as much as The Fight is a game about fighting. No prizes for guessing what The Shoot is about, then.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: The Fight

Coming as one of the PlayStation Move’s most high-profile titles, The Fight has a lot of eyes upon it. Heralded as a sign of the PlayStation 3 being able to offer mature gamers what the Wii has not, The Fight has great expectations to live-up to – far more so than the initial batch of launch titles, Sports Champions et al. However, while based on a concept that is seemingly so simple, the fighting mechanic has thus far proved near-impossible to deliver effectively with current-generation technology.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Kung Fu Rider

Of all the titles set to be available alongside the PlayStation Move motion-controller next week, Kung Fu Rider is undoubtedly the most eccentric. The simple premise of mounting a small, wheeled seat – be it an office chair or a vacuum cleaner – and shooting downhill towards an awaiting van is complicated by the likes of storming triad and moving vehicles, and much more besides. Designed for both younger gamers and those wishing for a return of the halcyon Japanese oddity 16-bit days, Kung Fu Rider is that which is becoming somewhat of a rarity in the modern industry: the full game centred upon a one-shot mechanic. And so hopes are high that Kung Fu Rider has got its basic principle right from the start.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Sports Champions

Electronic Theatre Image             With Start the Party! providing Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) with their equivalent of Wii Play, Sports Champions is quite obviously designed to fill the shoes of Wii Sports. Taking this into account before commencing play in Sports Champions will highlight many of the differences between Nintendo and Sony’s approach to motion-controller packaging, most immediately in that of the aesthetic quality, but also in the depths beyond that.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Start the Party!

As part of the first-party launch line-up for the forthcoming PlayStation Move motion-controller, Start the Party! has a lot to prove. Being heralded alongside Sports Champions as Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) answer to Wii Sports and Wii Play, Supermassive Games has not only been tasked with designing a game that shows a full range of the capabilities offered by PlayStation Move, but also compiling it in a way that familiarises novices with the nuances of control, just as Nintendo’s aforementioned groundbreaking titles have managed.
