Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: WET

15 September, 2009
By

Despite the fact that WET has had a very turbulent development on the face of it, the game arrives at European retail this Friday looking unmoved by the commotion. Developed by Artificial Mind & Movement, also known as A2M, WET was originally picked-up for publication by Activision. During the infamous Activision-Blizzard merger fallout, which saw titles such as Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Brütal Legend and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand dropped from their then forthcoming portfolio, WET suffered under the strain. A year later, however, WET was still going strong, and it was announced that Bethesda Softworks had picked-up the publishing rights.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: The Beatles: Rock Band

The Beatles: Rock Band heralds a significant shift in perception not just for the Rock Band series, nor Rhythm Action games, but the industry as a whole. Designed from the ground-up as a product of The Beatles heritage, tucked and trimmed into the Rock Band mould, The Beatles: Rock Band is as much a product of cultural importance as it is for the progression of one of videogaming’s most popular genres.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Mini Ninjas

8 September, 2009

Mini Ninjas, created by IO Interactive, is a considerable change of pace for the developer who shot to fame in 2000 with the birth of the Hitman franchise. Numerous sequels and a side-step into the under appreciated Freedom Fighters later and the developer moved on to the Current-Generation with Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, which received a decidedly mixed critical response. Perhaps moving away from the pursuit of realistic adult entertainment could be just what the doctor ordered.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Madden NFL 10

1 September, 2009

Madden NFL 10 on PlayStation 3 is the latest iteration of the famous NFL franchise to reach retail shelves, and with the system having arrived more than a year after the Xbox 360, is in fact only the fourth title to be launched on the system. This may result in the title being more appealing to the PlayStation 3 audience as, quite simply, there’s been less opportunity to pick-up a past title either upon release or since at a lowered price, but that doesn’t mean that Madden NFL 10 is without competition; namely, it’s predecessor, Madden 09.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Batman: Arkham Asylum

24 August, 2009
By

Electronic Theatre ImageEidos Interactive and Rocksteady Studios are set to release the highly-anticipated Batman: Arkham Asylum in both North American and European territories this week, and yet even prior to launch the game as been hailed as a success. Expected to perform exceptionally well at retail, Batman: Arkham Asylum will no doubt justify the cost of using such an established license, especially in these times of Dark Knight resurgence. But as longtime gamers are undoubtedly aware, commercial success doesn’t always equate to a successful implementation of that much loved subject matter.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Fight Night Round 4

12 July, 2009

The latest in EA SPORTS’ Current-Generation releases is a sigh of relief to many. Fight Night Round 3 was acknowledged as a fine, if flawed, Boxing game for the new crop of consoles, but as the hardware has aged the expected sequel seemed less-and-less likely, seemingly passed-over for the decidedly underachieving Facebreaker. All that waiting has now ended, however, with the release of Fight Night Round 4.

Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires has arrived on the PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) at a time of great change for its European publisher. Perhaps the last game to grace retail shelves bearing the well recognised Koei logo, Tecmo Koei Europe’s new dynamic will reportedly bring a reinvigorated approach to satisfying the European gamer. But with such a long list of titles gracing the Dynasty Warriors back catalogue, they surely couldn’t have been getting it too wrong this far?

Red Faction: Guerrilla is the third title to be released in Volition’s series of Red Planet excursions, and the first to be offered for Current-Generation systems. The advancement of processing capabilities has changed many aspects of the series for this outing, most notably that of the player’s perspective, but also in that of the series’ technology showcase, Geo-Mod.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: SingStar Queen

3 May, 2009
By

As the second of Electronic Theatre’s SingStar reviews this weekend, we bring you SingStar Queen, a charismatically more niche presentation than yesterday’s SingStar Pop, but delivered to retail in exactly the same manner. SingStar Queen is a part of a new breed in its own right, however, as along with SingStar ABBA it marks the start of a new direction for the franchise – releases orientated around a single band’s work.
