8 December, 2011

Electronic Theatre ImageMicrosoft Studios’ full-body motion-control device is benefiting from a great deal of support this winter. After a year on store shelves it seems that third parties are finally ready to support the device with brand new franchises and adaptations of existing ones. Alongside familiar videogame names such as Rabbids and Forza come some more commercial properties, one such title being Grease Dance from 505 Games.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Rise of Nightmares

6 December, 2011

Electronic Theatre ImageSEGA’s Rise of Nightmares has been one of the most highly-anticipated Kinect titles since the unveiling of the device over a year ago. The first maturely themed motion-control title for the Xbox 360’s full body motion-control device, there has been a lot of expectation placed on the videogame, and lots has been said about the in-development work that may not necessarily stand true with the final product. Now, here with the finished retail version available in stores worldwide, it quickly becomes apparent that Rise of Nightmares is a bold and refreshing new direction for motion-controlled videogames.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Just Dance 3

11 October, 2011
By

Ubisoft’s Just Dance series has become one of the most popular new franchises on the current-generation for a very specific reason: there are no barriers for entry. Just as with Wii Sports or Wii Fit before it, gamers playing Just Dance know just what will be expected of them before they even pick up that Wii Remote, or here with the Xbox 360 Kinect version of Just Dance 3, stand in front of that camera.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Kinect Fun Labs – Bobblehead

Much like the Kinect Fun Labs compendium’s Build A Buddy software, Bobblehead is offered as an additional free download outside of the start package. Still of a notable size, 206.01 MB to be precise, the need for Bobblehead’s weight isn’t quite as obvious as that of Build A Buddy, but it’s still free interactive entertainment, and it’s still enjoyable for all of it’s incredibly brief duration.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Kung Fu Panda 2

Electronic Theatre Image

THQ’s Kung Fu Panda 2 launched last week on a multitude of formats, each with their own unique selling point. It’s arguably the version of the game available on Wii and this, the Xbox 360 release, that make the fullest use of the hardware at their disposal, with the former utilising THQ’s own uDraw hardware and the latter exclusively making use of Kinect, the full-body motion-control device. However, as has been found on many occasions previously, opting to utilise additional hardware doesn’t make a videogame good in and of itself; it takes a sound development plan and great implementation of those additional assets too.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Kinect Fun Labs – Build A Buddy

Build A Buddy is another free app offered as part of the Kinect Fun Labs compendium, but one which is offered separately from the main package. Weighing in at 247.75 MB, it’s a considerable size as an addition to the selection of apps – nearly five times that of the original limit for Xbox LIVE Arcade games – but the worth of it’s capacity is proven by the visual detail of the software.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Kinect Fun Labs – Kinect Googly Eyes

Along with Kinect Me, Kinect Googly Eyes is one of the launch apps in the Kinect Fun Labs compendium. Available now as part of the initial free package, Kinect Googly Eyes is perhaps the most simplistic piece of interactive entertainment software ever launched on a home console, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting than a full pice release.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Kinect Fun Labs – Kinect Me

The launch of the Kinect Fun Labs app compendium was met with a much muted response this week. Announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles and released simultaneously on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, the free selection of apps provide a number of new ways to experiment with the capabilities of the Kinect hardware, with many more promised for the future. One of the first apps available Kinect Me, is one of the most obvious also, allowing Kinect to create an avatar for any player automatically.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Carnival Games: In Action

19 April, 2011
By

Electronic Theatre Image

The latest title in 2K Games’ phenomenally successful Carnival Games franchise, Carnival Games: In Action is now available exclusively for the Xbox 360’s motion-control peripheral, Kinect. Having sold more than seven million units worldwide, it comes as no surprise that 2K Games would be keen to push the Carnival Games franchise into new territory, or that Cat Daddy games would be keen to develop them. What does come at a surprise however, is how far removed from the past gripes and grievances of the series that Carnival Games: In Action actually stands.

Electronic Theatre In-depth Review: Fighters Uncaged

2 December, 2010

While Microsoft seems content on delivering family-orientated titles for their recently released full-body motion-control device at present, there are some third-parties looking towards a more mature audience. Ubisost are first out of the gate with Fighters Uncaged, the first Xbox 360 Kinect title aimed at a mid-to-late teen audience. And while it undoubtedly serves its purpose as filling that market, there’s little else that could really be said about Fighters Uncaged’s proficiencies.
