            The latest title in 2K Games’ phenomenally successful Carnival Games franchise, Carnival Games: In Action is now available exclusively for the Xbox 360’s motion-control peripheral, Kinect. Having sold more than seven million units worldwide, it comes as no surprise that 2K Games would be keen to push the Carnival Games franchise into new territory, or that Cat Daddy games would be keen to develop them. What does come at a surprise however, is how far removed from the past gripes and grievances of the series that Carnival Games: In Action actually stands.

            While Microsoft seems content on delivering family-orientated titles for their recently released full-body motion-control device at present, there are some third-parties looking towards a more mature audience. Ubisost are first out of the gate with Fighters Uncaged, the first Xbox 360 Kinect title aimed at a mid-to-late teen audience. And while it undoubtedly serves its purpose as filling that market, there’s little else that could really be said about Fighters Uncaged’s proficiencies.

            As one of the Kinect’s most discussed launch titles, Kinectimals has a great deal of expectation resting upon its shoulders. As with Kinect Adventures, Dance Central and Kinect Sports, Kinectimals is deemed one of the most essential titles in the present line-up, but many have already dismissed the game as a throwaway Nintendogs clone. While Kinectimals is unlikely to ever change that perception for those who have judged the game without ever playing it, more keen observers will find a technically accomplished videogame experience awaiting them.

            As with Wii and the recently launched PlayStation Move controller, the Xbox 360’s Kinect needs a piece of software to teach the basics of gaming in this new spectrum, to introduce controller-free gameplay. Unlike Wii Sports and Sports Champions however, Microsoft has chosen to offer their sports package as an optional extra, choosing instead to bring a mix of ‘adventure’ games to first-time users.
