Namco Bandai Games’ Dragon Ball Z videogames have had a bit of a rough ride on the current-generation consoles. While the PlayStation 2 editions of the franchise were considering groundbreaking beat-‘em-up titles by many, the revival of the franchise lead by Capcom’s Street Fighter IV hasn’t done the series any favours in terms of public perception. Whereas Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi renovated the genre with a number of unique ideas and true innovation, Street Fighter IV’s insistence that much of this wasn’t necessary had the crowds believing that subsequent Dragon Ball Z titles had become over bloated affairs suitable for the core fanbase only.

Removed from the studios’ typical core demographic, This Xbox 360 Kinect exclusive title is deigned to be enjoyed by the whole family, and in that respect it’s wholly successful.
Namco Bandai Games Europe’s autumn line-up is well pitched to fill a few gaps in the market. The recently released Dark Souls proves that there is still room for challenging videogames, and the forthcoming Naruto and Dragonball Z titles promise to deliver this year’s anime fix for fans of their respective series. This week’s release of Ace Combat: Assault Horizon has its own agenda however: to become the leading flight combat videogame on the current-generation systems.
With the ongoing Rugby World Cup in New Zealand placing England as one of the tournaments’ strongest competitors, the potential for videogame adaptations of the sport is greater now than ever before. Many videogames have tried on previous generations of hardware, but few have really grabbed the audience in the same way that Rugby World Cup 2011 could well do now, with the installed console base greater than ever before, and interest in the sport considered to be at it’s highest in decades.
