GameCity has today announced the details of Episode 6, Season 3 of GameCityNights, the monthly, after-dark exploration of videogames culture. Episode 6 will feature the co-creator of The Watchmen, comic book artist and writer Dave Gibbons and Jonathan Smith, Head of Production at TT Games Publishing and Game Director on LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. Taking place at Antenna, Beck Street, NG1 1EQ on Thursday, June 28th from 4pm, entry is strictly 18+.
From 4pm BST, GameCity are celebrating the Olympic flame passing within yards of the GameCityNights gig on June 28th by inviting you to take part in an adrenaline fuelled sweepstake predicting variables surrounding its
passage. Which hand will the torch be held in? What will the level of ambient crowd noise be? What state will the traffic lights be in when the runner crosses? This is both a fun event and an incisive face-off between scientific and psychic prediction, however this is but a prelude to the main event.
Headlining the night, Dave Gibbons, co-creator of The Watchmen and comic book writer and artist for more than thirty years will be in discussion with Jonathan Smith, Head of Production at TT Games Publishing and Game Director on LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, as well as other brick-tastic adaptations of beloved series including Harry Potter, Star Wars and the recently announced LEGO Lord of the Rings. Smith and Gibbons will discuss heroes, their importance, their necessity and how to create them. This is your chance to witness a unique conversation, and a rare opportunity to ask questions of two of the leading figures in comics and videogames in the same room.
Dave Gibbons said, “As I’m already participating in the GameCity festival and GameCity Prize this year, it seemed only right to appear at this GameCityNights gig, too. I wouldn’t want people to think I’m not fully committed.
“I’m really excited about this unique event and talking with Jonathan Smith. Videogames and comic books have a lot in common in cultural terms, yet there are barely any platforms where their creators publicly meet. I can’t wait.” He added.
The evening will also feature our usual showcase of the best in videogames to play, a very-special edition of ‘Beat the Bull’ and an esteemed guest joining us via video-link in ‘From the Desk of…’
As ever, GameCityNights will include the very best indie developers showcasing their work alongside the latest AAA titles, Owain Davies’ House Band, a chance for one lucky audience member to Beat the Bull, A Winner is You prize fund, wholesome hot food and a well stocked bar will round out the night.
GameCityNights run on the last Thursday of every month at Antenna in Nottingham, Beck Street, NG1 1EQ. Entry is strictly 18+, tickets are free for Nottingham Trent University students, £5 in advance and for NUS members, £6 on the door for the general public. Due to limited capacity, pre-booking is advised. To do so, go to http://nights.gamecity.org for details. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details from GameCity, and future GameCityNights events.
