On Thursday 26th August 2010, the eve of the TV Festival and the closing day of Edinburgh Interactive, the two will host the first ever creative industries event for television and games, providing an insight into technologies, but more importantly bringing the decision makers from games and television together for the first time.

Sony and Playlogic’s PLAYSTATION Eye Collaboration, EyePet, was available for live demonstrations at Edinburgh Interactive, part of the Edinburgh Festival, late last week. Taking the main stage at regular intervals and asking small groups of audience members to join them, representatives from Sony demonstrated the basics of having your very own pet inside your PLAYSTATION 3, as well as some of the mini-games that will be available to challenge your critter.

Mini Ninjas is IO Interactive’s latest foray and first true Current-Generation release. Though Hitman: Blood Money received an Xbox 360 release, there’s no denying it was little more than a port of the PlayStation2 release, and so all eyes are on Mini Ninjas to see if the team can still compete on the more advanced hardware.

From Peter Moore’s candid address of the recent life-and-times of the multi-billion dollar brand that is EA SPORTS, to the performance of the free-to-play business model within social networks, to a discussion on the future of blockbuster home console releases, or lack thereof, as some may have you believe. The attendees of press, retail and industry spokespersons were given ample opportunity to reflect on the present economic climate, and how videogames can (and will) strive for more in the coming years.

Peter Moore, president of EA Sports, opened the Edinburgh Interactive, part of the Edinburgh Festival 2009, with a somewhat self-congratulatory yet honest review of how EA SPORTS have revolutionised their outlook to avoid collapse. Though, predictably, delivering his findings from a very inward looking viewpoint, Moore spoke of his observations of the present, evolving videogames scene and recognitions of a need to innovate within businesses to keep up with advancements in technology and consumerism.

Interactive Ontario (IO) in partnership with the Ontario International Marketing Centre (OIMC) will be heading over to Scotland to team-up with Edinburgh Interactive at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange on 13th & 14th August 2009. Representing over 200 companies within the Ontario interactive digital content industry, IO will be joined by Capybara Games, who are set to showcase two soon-to-be-released titles.

The best raw talent in computer games design from around the world is preparing for a final battle at Dare ProtoPlay (14-16 August), part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Dare ProtoPlay, presented by Abertay University and powered by Intel and set to be hoasted at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (http://www.venue150.co.uk/), has grown out of the world-leading Dare to be Digital competition and aims to celebrate young talent through a mini videogames festival. It is a unique cultural event for the games industry showcasing talent, IP, research, and much more, and serves as a battleground for creativity and culture in games development.
