Following yesterday’s announcement that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had broken the record for launch day sales in the UK, Activision have today revealed a small breakdown of how those units are attributed to each platform. For sales throughout North America and Europe, currently suggested to have surpassed five million units in total, it appears that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold considerably more units on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console than it's rival system, Sony's PlayStation 3.
During the ongoing BMO Capital Markets Digital Entertainment Conference in New York, COO of interactive entertainment business
Dennis Durkin stated sales of the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has doubled the total sales of the PlayStation 3 release. Exact figures have not yet been revealed.
"Initial feedback from retailers is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 [on Xbox 360] has outsold the PS3 2:1," he said.
Durkin also stated that this past Tuesday, the launch day of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, was the busiest day the Xbox LIVE service has ever seen, with over two million simultaneous users online at a given time. This news coincides with Microsoft’s announcement that the Xbox 360 console has surpassed ten million unit sales in EMEA territories, an impressive milestone which it’s currently believed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 played a significant part in.
