Bethesda Softworks has today released the second title from id Software since the acquisition of the developer by parent company Zenimax Media. Following last year’s critically acclaimed original IP Rage comes a revision of a well established one, with DOOM 3: BFG Edition now available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
DOOM 3: BFG Edition brings the original DOOM 3 to high-definition consoles for the first time, bringing with it DOOM, DOOM 2 and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, as well as the ‘Lost Mission.’ All DOOM 3 content has been re-mastered for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in stereoscopic 3D. Electronic Theatre recently delivered a hands-on preview of DOOM 3: BFG Edition, stating; “The animation in DOOM 3: BFG Edition is poor to say the least, and the enemy artificial intelligence (AI) is frankly appalling. Heading straight into an enemy nest should be terrifying enough, but when the interactions are so erratic by today’s standards that you simply cannot tell whether the stunted animation sequences will have an enemy charge unhindered over scenery of have them stop dead behind it, the experience isn’t so much a test of skill as it is one of endurance.”
Available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC from today, hopes are high that the final release version of DOOM 3: BFG Edition is significantly better than the preview edition Electronic Theatre got hands-on with. Of course, Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with the videogame to see if that is the case.
