Square Enix has revealed a selection of new screenshots taken from the forthcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, set for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 early next year. These new images offer more details on the city of revelry, Yusnaan, as well as further detail about the battle system.
Within the warehouse district of Yusnaan is the station – lying bare and deserted, it is in stark contrast to the bustle of the city’s centre. Also in Yusnaan are the warehouses that contain stockpiles of goods from all around the world. Finally, the Slaughterhouse is a brutal arena where battles between mighty combatants are held every night.
With regards to the battle system, in some fights you can destroy sections of a monster foe. If you succeed in disabling a specific area, the enemy will not only be weakened but you can also gain different items as rewards once the battle is won. There is also the introduction of a counter attack system: counterblow is effective against an enemy’s physical attacks, but it is powerless against magic and some special attacks, so take care when using it. By timing your counter perfectly with the enemy’s attack, you can render it ineffective and land a punishing blow of your own that can easily stagger the foe. This ability uses up a large portion of the ATB gauge however, so it is important to only use it in the right situation.
The brand new screenshots revealing these new details are featured on this very page, and Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII as it approaches release next year.
