Electronic Theatre ImageThe critically acclaimed Dead or Alive 5 is set to receive a free-to-play edition this autumn, as Tecmo Koei Europe look to break new ground with the hugely popular franchise. Alongside the forthcoming release of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will be Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters, a free-to-play downloadable edition of the videogame supported by micro-transactions.

The Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters edition will offer four of the most popular Dead or Alive 5 characters – Kasumi, Ayane, Ryu Hayabusa and Hayate – and all gameplay modes bar the story mode. Sounding like an elaborate demo, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters distinguishes itself by offering additional characters and the story mode as Electronic Theatre Imagedownloadable content (DLC). Players will be able to add playable additions of their favourite characters for a one-off payment of $3.99 USD each, and the story mode will be available to purchase for $14.99. No UK prices have yet been revealed.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters is currently suggested for release on 3rd September 2013, exclusively for PlayStation 3. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate and the potential for an Xbox 360 version of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters, which has not yet been ruled out entirely.
