The Xbox is one step closer to heaven after the revelation that as of today Microsoft has terminated its service repairs programme for the console.
Recently purchased machines will of course be supported until their warranty expires, however faulty machines will not be replaced. Instead, an offer to upgrade to the Xbox360 will be made available.
Microsoft will continue to provide technical support for the system online, and has a new “how-to” trouble shooting guide available, which does appear to be a worthwhile effort.
The Xbox launched in Europe in 2002, and has sold an estimated twenty-five million units worldwide, with recently been surpassed by its successor, the Xbox360, which launched in 2005.
