The launch of the long awaited Gotham City Impostors has been preceded by the arrival of several downloadable content (DLC) packs for the videogame, designed to encourage players to spend real money to further their progress through the title’s level system. As of now, players can buy XP Boost packs, Premium Card Packs and more before the official launch of the videogame.
The first cause for concern is of course the fact that Warner Bros. Interactive appear keen to unbalance the launch of Gotham City Impostors by offering gamers the opportunity to jump up the ranks with a small cash injection. Oddly, delivering that XP Boost to your team as opposed to just yourself is the cheapest way to go: the XP Boost Solo Pack is listed at £1.35 GBP on the Games
for Windows – LIVE Marketplace currently, while the XP Boost Team is priced at only £0.67. Both packs offer double XP, and are effective for one hour of actual play, not counting time spent in menus or lobbies.
Also available are Premium Card Packs and Gotham Mascots, two of the former and four of the latter. The Premium Card Packs unlock five unique Calling Cards for a cost of £0.67 per pack, while the Gotham Mascots are priced at £1.99 each.
The prices of the launch DLC are very inviting, but herein lies the problem: if it costs under a pound to double your XP for an hour, will there be too many players racing up the ranks leaving those who refuse to pay unable to compete? Of course, we won’t actually know the outcome of this choice of DLC until the Gotham City Impostors launches, later today on PC and tomorrow on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but you can be sure that Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details.

UPDATE: Since the publication of this article the Xbox LIVE Marketplace has been updated, with the total amount of DLC offered for the console version of Gotham City Impostors in excess of one hundred different pieces. These include the above discussed items and a number of costume accessories.
