As was revealed some months ago, the Xbox LIVE Rewards system has now received a significant overhaul to incorporate Gamerscore. Players can unlock Achievements on Xbox 360, Windows Phone 7 and Games for Windows – LIVE products, and doing so will entitle them to a number of different discounts and promotions.
The Xbox LIVE Achievements system is infamous in its afterthought status, added to the Xbox 360 firmware at the last minute and yet having been imitated by nearly every other format. Today, Microsoft Studios are 
pushing the envelope even further by adding real rewards to the system, as opposed to merely bragging rights amongst friends.
The first set of additional bonuses offered include birthday gifts and discounts on Xbox LIVE Marketplace purchases over an entire month, with greater rewards offered for the amount of Gamerscore earnt.
