Electronic Theatre ImageThe recent Xbox 360 dashboard update has seen many subtle changes come to the firmware, including a different highlighting system and slightly different colour scheme in line with the forthcoming Xbox One. However these changes run much deeper than just aesthetic, as Microsoft Studios continues modernising the Xbox brand for a new generation.

At the launch of the Xbox 360 console the Xbox LIVE Marketplace was seen as a dramatic step forward for console gamers. Despite the fact that PC videogames had been reaping the benefits of digital distribution for years it was a bold step for Electronic Theatre Imageconsoles to follow suit. There’s no denying that the mainstream audience moves in line with console formats much readier than PC, and as such any new waves on console will be felt much stronger in the industry than those of PC. In an effort to increase the accessibility of digital content, the Xbox LIVE Marketplace has now been rebranded as the Xbox Games Store.

This change can already be seen on the official Xbox website, Xbox.com, after a small update yesterday. Furthermore, upcoming release Lost Planet 3 notes the change upon its main menu, as can be seen in the image on this very page. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with any further rebranding of the Xbox properties as the launch of the Xbox One approaches.
